3 Simple Ways to Invite More Magic Into Your Life

I’m  someone who craves consistency but also fears getting stuck in a routine. These opposing forces have been historically at odds with each other, creating chaos in my life. As I’ve slowed down and spent time going deeper, I’ve realized that it’s not routine or consistency that I’m opposed to. I was afraid of predictability.

I don’t want my life to be pre-determined or meaningless.

What I find myself truly craving is more magic. I’m not necessarily talking about the grand gesture movie kind of magic. I’m talking about looking up at the stars wondering how this all came to be kind of magic which is actually available to us whenever we want.

In fact, magic is often waiting patiently in the mundane, and I’m excited to share 3 simple ways you can experience more magic in your life.

What Is Magic And Why Might It Be Important?

What do you imagine when you think about magic? The dictionary definition isn’t important. Instead I want you to focus on what comes up for you when you think about magic as it relates to your life.

What is Magic?

When I think of magic, I think about tapping into something that can’t necessarily be explained. There’s mystery to magic. It’s what lies in the nooks and crannies of life, waiting for us to slow down enough to notice it.

The Ability to Connect to Something that is Beyond the Physical

There have been times in my life where I was deep in the daily grind. I used to hold the belief that there was no deeper meaning to anything. Every action was random. A serendipitous moment merely a coincidence. I’ll say that living this way sucks. Life becomes a rinse/repeat cycle.

If you don’t allow yourself to believe that there are aspects of life that can’t be explained, you’ll rob yourself of joy, wonder and the feeling that you are connected to something greater than yourself.

You don’t have to be on a spiritual path, or believe in anything “woo”. You simply have to believe that your mind doesn't have all the answers, that there are simply things in our world that can’t be explained and that’s okay. If you open your mind up to that possibility, then you open yourself up to magic.

The Feeling Of Awe, Wonder Or Possibility

When was the last time you took a moment to look up at the sky and really take it in? It’s so easy to get swept up in our to-do lists and schedules that we forget to pause and take it all in. The feeling of possibility, being in awe of nature’s beauty, letting our curiosity lead, it’s all available to us at any time. It’s in these moments that we can feel more connected to our surroundings, but also what exists beyond. If you’re feeling isolated or lonely, the anecdote won’t be found by filling your calendar more. It’s through our own connection within that we discover how truly interconnected we are.

The Belief That Something Seemingly Impossible Is Possible

I think most of us are naturally problem solvers. I don’t know about you, but I seem to be always asking the question of how. How will I get there? How is this possible? How am I meant to show up? While problem solving can be a useful skill, it can also limit us.

By needing to figure out “how,” you’re making your dreams smaller. What if you’re not supposed to know how it all turns out? What if the whole point is that you put one foot in front of the other not knowing where you’re going? What if you're destined for something bigger than you can even envision right now?

Why Is Magic Important?

We’ve all had to face obstacles and initiations throughout our lives. It’s the challenges that help shape us into who we are. Without magic or a feeling of interconnectedness, our path can feel long, arduous and maybe even pointless.

It Gives Meaning To Our Lives

Has anyone ever told you “everything happens for a reason?” This is a popular sentiment to share when someone is going through something difficult. We naturally want to give meaning to our experiences. It’s what helps us get through the hard times and makes celebrating that much better.

What is life without meaning? An endless cycle of days? Finding a deeper meaning is what will make you feel truly alive.

It Allows Us To Accomplish What We Didn’t Believe Was Possible

When you are able to trust in your path, in the decisions you’re making you might notice that overthinking voice starts to quiet. You can take action without judgement or fear, and those actions build and can create something great.

Is there a dream you’ve let go dormant? A desire you’ve left behind?

What might happen if you started to believe your dreams were possible?

It Inspires Us To Dream And Think More Creatively

When we’re able to create small magical moments for ourselves, it can inspire creative thinking and allow us to think beyond what is in our present. Opening yourself up to see new perspectives can not only help you get out of your routines, but also help you literally rewire your brain and create new neural pathways.

How To Make Your Life Feel More Magical

In my experience, life feels most magical when I slow down and am present in each and every moment. Magic isn’t about becoming an overnight success or winning the lottery. It’s more than that. It’s that feeling of being connected to something bigger than yourself, of a day well lived. When life starts to feel fast, I like to come back to these 3 simple practices that help me pause and return to the present moment.

3 Practices to Cultivate More Magic

The best part about creating a magical life is that it gets to be uniquely yours. I invite you to lean into whatever you feel drawn to, and explore what makes you feel most alive. I’m offering 3 simple ways that have helped me find more magic in my life, but this is meant to be a jumping off point. Find what feels good for you!

Take In the Good

Through my somatic training, I’ve learned that we as humans are wired to look for what’s wrong. It’s an instinct that was meant to help us survive. Our bodies don’t understand the difference between being in danger and ruminating on a perceived problem in our lives. We can get stuck in the “what’s wrong attention,” constantly looking for what needs fixing externally and internally.

This is why it’s important to cultivate an intentional practice where you look for what feels good and nourishing. This might be something as simple as taking a moment to let your eyes wander around your space and letting your gaze land on something that is visually appealing or feels nourishing in some way.

It could also look like taking time at the end of the day to make a list of what is going well. You might surprise yourself with unexpected wins or small moments of joy.

Once you start to look for the good in small ways and allow it to nourish you, you might notice how different you start to feel. Big dramatic changes aren’t always the path forward. Creating a consistent practice of taking in the good will help you grow your capacity so that you’re able to receive bigger celebrations and create the life of your dreams.

Look for Angel Numbers

I’ve noticed angel numbers around me ever since I was a child. I first started noticing them because my mom would point out when it was 11:11. I didn’t understand them as angel numbers yet, but I also found delight in seeing angel numbers out in the world.

What are Angel Numbers?

They are repeating or sequential number patterns such as 1111 or 2424. They can be seen as messages from the spiritual world, or a form of guidance and reassurance from a higher power.

I find that it’s the easiest way to feel connected to something bigger than myself. It’s also a great way to practice taking in the good because it gives your mind something to focus on and look out for.

Ask for a Sign

Asking for a sign is a way to give our minds a filter with which it can sift through the overwhelming amount of sensory input it receives. It doesn’t always need to have a significant meaning behind it.

Have you ever noticed that when you’re thinking about purchasing something new, you start to see that item everywhere you go? It’s the same concept. If you’re looking to get back to the present or just crave more magical moments, think about a sign you want to receive. It could be something like seeing an animal or an item in the wild. It could also be a word or a phrase. Even something as simple as looking for a specific color could act as a sign.

Once you’ve decided on your sign you can start to take note of when it appears in your day. Maybe you overhear a conversation at a coffee shop or your word pops up as a lyric on the radio. Maybe you start to see the color red everywhere. Whatever it may be, you can think of your sign as a secret treasure hunt.

If you’re feeling a little lost and are open to receiving guidance, you might attach an intention to your sign. What does it mean to you when you see it? How does it make you feel?

Tip: Keep a note on your phone and write down every time you see your sign.
